Despite the title of this post, I reaffirm that my commitment is to talk about politics and do not criticize a certain erratic and partial newspaper in its worldview. However, due to batlant mistakes made by the platform, ir should me noted that, imminently, these criticism will be extremely recurrent.

Recalling a certain editorial publiched about 2018 presidencial elections, there is a certain criticism about the the newspaper responsible for publishing the editorial in question. It would be much more prudent to publish ir at this worrying moment that Rio de Janeiro is going through. I believe that even when it lost his Federal District status, it didn’t found itself in such position.

The election for mayor chair of Rio de Janeiro city deserves the same editorial, considering that we observe here the same situation. Despite the apparent difficulty at the choice, we can do the maths, as it should be done back there en 2018. However, as the popular maxim invokes: never doubt the Brazilians.

Despite the plurarity of candidates for the election, as was seen in several of the largest citires in the country, the responde form the polls was to maintain the insecurity climate, cover for organized crime activity and fiscal deficit, also observed in state government.

Eduardo Paes, eternally tempting candidate of Rio’s city hall, continues his journey as a postulant to the post, trying to reach his third term. Winner of 2008 and 2012 city elections, he made a government marked by infrastructure works, aimed at revitalizing certain parts of the city. There was also the World Cup phenomenon, which boosted the city’s budget and strengthened the investment policy in urban works. Due to the impossibility of a third term, he left office.

The balance of his term was good, overall. It obtained significant popular support due to reforms he promoted in key points of the city and the projects to revitalize suburb. However, the mandaroty infrastructure policy stemming from FIFA’s dictates made it impossible to maintain popular approval and Paes found himself outside the political scene of Rio de Janeiro.

His successor, Marcelo Crivella, trying his second term, faced several crises im health and safety. Facing recurring budget shortages, the current mayor sought a number of solutions to put his political promises into practice. He cut commissioned government employees, reinstated budgets foreseen in budget law. However, the actoins were not enought and Rio faces problems in critical sectors of public servant, such hospital administration and full family doctors.

One of the highlights of Marcelo Crivella’s campaign for Rio town hall was public transport modernization and expansion. Due to the same budgetary problems, the current mayor has failed to deliver on his promises in that area. The biggest evidence of his poor resources management was a contract cancellation with the company responsible for works in Yellow Line, an important project to expando public transport in Rio, involving subways and bus lines, which totales, according informations from Yellow Line PCI (parliamentary committe of inquiry), an estimated loss of more than R$ 1.5 billion.

Making an analogy to the infortunate editorial publiched by a certain brazilian newspaper, we find ourselves in the same situation. It looks like we are facing a very difficult choice, but not so much. Several points in disagreement with the current mayor arise when we analyze both their actions. I emphasize that I failed to list here the most disappointing point, in my vision, to current mayor: the fact of being a protestant clergyman.

Why do I consider this more serious than spreading fake news, promoting a campaign of hatred for brands and companies, acting badly as a manager, having police inverstigation files in his possession at his own house, or even his homophobic and racist statements against minories?

Because he is a clergyman of Igreja Universal (Universal Church). Scandals like not declared money on a plane, money sent to tax heavens, political propaganda in churches, Edir Macedo, indoctrination of the faithful. There is nothing more vile than exploring peolpe’s faith and compelling the faithful to finance a hope of saving themselves from this world of barbarism.

In my vision, that is a little more radical than French Revolution ideas, it’s not enought the State to be secular, but also the members of clergy (horrible social classification, by the way) should not even have a public employment, create a evangelic group on Congress or govern according to his twisted view of God’s law.

There is no other way to prevent evangelical churches fropm being used as leverage for certain candidates than by prohibiting them from holding any religious denomination as a candidate. If the clergyman, bishop, priest, nun or any other denomination decides to run for any political office, he must abandon his denomination in a public ceremony and prove that he no longer obtains any type of income, wages or transfers from the institution from whici he is part of.

I emphasize, as I commit myself in all posts, thateverything I expose here is only a opinion and is precisely in a open plataform so we can exercise public debate. As with all posts, I present my final opinion about the subject in three maxims: Eduardo Paes will be elected; his mandate should be similar to the general rule of third mandates — medium to bad; Crivella should no longe be elected to any position, including as building superintendent, as long as the religious institution that he participates continues to dictate his political position.
